Haris Khan

Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist

Haris Khan is a Senior Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Specialist responsible for the Pakistan DRM country program portfolio. He brings with him over ten years of experience in the areas of disaster management and humanitarian response, project management, integrated logistics and supply chain management. He has been involved in the responses to major disasters and humanitarian crisis across South and East Asia including the 2004 Tsunami, 2005 earthquake and 2007 cyclone in Pakistan, the 2009 earthquake in Bhutan, the post conflict responses in Sri Lanka and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) / Balochistan in Pakistan as well as typhoon preparedness and response in the Philippines. In addition to six years at the Bank where he has been part of four Damage and Needs Assessments (DNA) and assisted the Government in designing a building material’s supply chain for reconstruction, Mr. Khan has worked with the Planning Commission of Pakistan and at Australian Aid (AusAID) as a Senior Program Officer. At AusAID he was instrumental in helping develop the methodology for conducting DNAs, mainstreaming disaster risk reduction (DRR) in development projects and contributed towards the formulation of the organization’s new Humanitarian and DRR policy. He is a Pakistan national and holds a Master’s degree in Transportation Management from the University of Antwerp, Belgium.
